AutoHunter Spotlight: 1979 Ford Mustang Convertible

Now on AutoHunter is this 30,108-mile 1979 Ford Mustang convertible conversion. Of course, the Mustang convertible did not officially return until 1984, but several enterprising companies converted cars into convertibles during those lean years. This Mustang is powered by a 2.8-liter V6 paired with a SelectShift automatic transmission. Other features include air conditioning, AM/FM stereo, interval windshield wipers, complete gauges, and Styled Steel wheels. Painted White with a black accessory top over a red cloth and vinyl interior, this Fox-bodied pony car is offered by the selling dealer with owner’s manual, spare keys, and clear title.

The White hue, which is the paint applied at the factory when this Mustang was new, is complemented by a black custom-made full metal frame convertible top. Other exterior features include dual side mirrors, non-functional hood scoop, and black side trim.

A set of 14-inch Styled Steel wheels with trim rings are wrapped in 185/75 General whitewall radial tires.

The red interior features cloth and vinyl upholstery. The front bucket seats have no console but the automatic transmission shifter is mounted to the floor. Other features include wood dashboard trim, air conditioning, AM/FM stereo, and two-spoke steering wheel.

Instrumentation includes 90-mph speedometer, 6,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the oil pressure, coolant temperature, alternator, and fuel. The odometer shows 30,108 miles, all of which are original to this car.

The 2.8-liter V6 was rated at 109 horsepower when new. Fuel is fed to it via a two-barrel carburetor. The engine is hooded to a three-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.

The undercarriage features power front disc brakes. A single exhaust system carries emissions to the rear.

The auction for this 30,108-mile 1979 Ford Mustang convertible conversion ends on Friday, January 23, 2025 at 11:15 a.m. (MST).
