Two Ferrari F40 crashes caught on camera in bad month for supercar fans

The Ferrari F40 is one of the most recognisable supercars ever made, but two examples have been left battered and bruised after separate crashes in the same week.

Images of a smashed Ferrari F40 on its side circulated on social media last week, which was followed by a video of the supercar losing control on a wet road.

It was later claimed the F40 was one of the highest-mileage examples currently in existence, and that it had been serviced shortly before the crash occurred.

While it’s a rarity to catch one of the circa-1315 F40s crashing on camera, just days later another example found itself in the headlines for the wrong reason.

The second Ferrari F40, reportedly owned by Formula 1 star Lando Norris, crashed in the Alps surrounding Monaco on a dry road, with the driver – understood not to be the McLaren racer – over-correcting a slide and hitting a metal barrier.

According to reports, the crash occurred earlier this month though footage didn’t surface until the weekend.

Both crashes appear to have not resulted in major damage, meaning the vehicles’ owners will likely be keen to repair their supercars which are valued at approximately $3 million each.

The Ferrari F40 is powered by a 352kW twin-turbo 2.9-litre V8 engine, and weighs less than 1300kg, with many describing it as a high-powered go-kart to drive.

There are only a handful of examples in Australia – one fewer after one F40 met its end on the Gold Coast in 2020, crashing into trees while reportedly on dealer plates and without insurance.
