2026 Toyota RAV4: Big price hikes coming for next generation of Australia’s most popular SUV

One of Australia’s most popular models is about to get a lot more expensive.

CarExpert understands that prices for the new-generation 2026 Toyota RAV4 are set to go up by approximately $5000 to $6000 on average, according to sources close to the company.

The new RAV4 was confirmed for the Australian market in early September 2025, when Toyota said it will offer 11 variants of the all-new mid-size SUV, including the choice of hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The outgoing RAV4 – Toyota Australia’s top-selling model and the nation’s second most popular model in 2024, behind the Ford Ranger and ahead of the HiLux – is currently priced from $42,260 before on-road costs for the entry-level GX variant, with the range-topping Edge available for $58,360 plus on-roads.

While Toyota has yet to announce pricing for the new RAV4, it’s believed the refreshed lineup could now start from at least $47,000.

Toyota Australia has confirmed a new flagship model, the RAV4 GR Sport, which could push prices close to $70,000 at the top end of the range.

Available exclusively as a plug-in hybrid, the GR Sport will combine a 2.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine with electric motors on the front and rear axles, fed from a 22.7kWh battery, delivering a total combined output of 227kW.

While the same performance will be available in lower grades, the GR Sport also features retuned suspension with ‘high-performance’ shock absorbers, wider wheel tracks, and a stiffer rear-end.

The new RAV4 flagship will also come with GR Sport seats and an interior featuring aluminium sports pedals and paddle shifters, plus a sportier exterior look with 20-inch alloy wheels.

Official pricing for the 2026 Toyota RAV4 is expected in the coming weeks, with orders to open soon after.
