Cupra Australia has confirmed its mid-size Terramar and Tavascan SUVs will offer new matte paint options for the 2026 model year, with orders opening in the coming months.
Speaking with CarExpert, Cupra Australia’s head of product Jeff Shafer said buyers of the model year 2026 (MY26) Terramar will have the option of Century Bronze and Enceladus Grey matte finishes for $2900.
The electric 2026 Tavascan will add Century Bronze matte, with pricing still to be confirmed.
Cupra is one of few brands in the more affordable segments to offer such paint finishes, with only the likes of Hyundai offering similar paint options on models like the Tucson and Ioniq 5 and Kia offering matte finishes on its EV6.
The only other brands to consistently offer matte/satin finishes as a regular option – as opposed to a special order – are BMW and Genesis.

Matte and satin paints often require special care and maintenance to avoid being damaged, and some brands have avoided offering such finishes locally as a result, despite making these available in overseas markets.
Kia, for example, only offers the Moonscape matte grey paint as a $3295 option on the EV6 including standard ‘Kia Car Care Paint Protection’ in an effort to avoid costly repairs.
Beyond the fresh set of paints, the Cupra Tavascan is now arriving with the optional Extreme Package in Australia, which includes forged alloy wheels and racy front bucket seats, which previously weren’t available with the initial batch of vehicles that arrived at the electric SUV’s launch in April this year.
While a proudly Spanish brand under the German Volkswagen Group, both the Terramar and Tavascan are sourced from other nations.
The Terramar is built alongside the Audi Q3 at the German luxury brand’s Hungarian plant, while the Tavascan is sourced from the VW Group’s Anhui facility in China, where it’s built alongside the near-identical Volkswagen ID.UNYX which is sold exclusively in the Chinese market.

Other Cupra models to come from outside of Spain are the Ateca – built alongside the related Skoda Karoq in Kvasiny, Czechia – and the Born EV hatchback, which is sourced from the same Zwickau factory in German as the VW ID.3 on which it’s based.
Following a lacklustre sales performance for the 2024 calendar year, Cupra Australia is looking to turn its fortunes around this year with a slew of new product.
The all-new Tavascan and Terramar enter as the brand’s dual-pronged entry into the bustling mid-size SUV segment, while the Leon and Formentor ranges will undergo significant mid-life refreshes in a staggered rollout.
Also in the mix will be the introduction of the Born VZ electric hot hatch hero, as well as the new-to-Australia Leon Sportstourer wagon.
Later in 2026 or early 2027, we’ll also see the entry-level Raval EV hatchback, which will spearhead the VW Group’s more affordable electric vehicle (EV) onslaught globlally.

Electrification is a key pillar for the Spanish brand, but not just EVs.
Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) feature heavily across the lineup, confirmed for the Terramar, Leon and Formentor ranges. The new generation of PHEV tech will see all models offer over 100km of zero-emissions range on the WLTP cycle.
So far in 2025, new products and sharp runout deals on outgoing models has seen the brand’s sales up by 37.8 per cent year-to-date as of July 31, though it still trails all of the other VW Group brands locally for sales volume.
Cupra’s team has said on record it isn’t chasing outright volume, though the Australian market is serving as a key export market case study, as one of the few regions outside of Europe the brand operates in.
