Chevrolet Corvette Z06 recalled in Australia

The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is being recalled in Australia following a stop-sale order in the US for both the Z06 and the ZR1, which is not sold here.

“General Motors is voluntarily recalling model year 2023-2026 Chevrolet Corvette Z06s to resolve an excess fuel spillage issue during refuelling,” a spokesperson for General Motors Australia and New Zealand (GMANZ) told CarExpert.

“This is a rare occurrence, and malfunctioning filling station pumps appear to be a contributing factor. The safety of our customers is the highest priority for the entire GM team, and we’re working to remedy this matter as quickly as possible.”

An official product safety recall is yet to be formally issued, and GMANZ is yet to confirm the exact number of vehicles impacted by the recall.

The number is set to be relatively low, given the eighth-generation (C8) Corvette Z06 has only been on sale for 12 months here, finding 72 homes in total last year and a further 22 this year to the end of July.

An official recall is also yet to be announced in the US, where GM issued a bulletin informing its dealer network to prepare for the recall – and to stop selling Z06 and ZR1 Corvettes until the issue is remedied.

The Corvette ZR1 is not produced in right-hand drive and is therefore unavailable in Australia via the official GM Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) network, which distributes the Chevrolet brand in Australia.

The ZR1 was the most potent Corvette when it was launched in 2024, with its twin-turbocharged 783kW/1123Nm 5.5-litre flat-plane crank V8, codenamed LT7, based on the non-turbo LT6 engine in the Z06.

While the ZR1 has since been eclipsed by the ZR1X – which adds an electric motor to the front axle to make 793kW/1123Nm – the Z06 remains the most powerful naturally aspirated Corvette.

Its 5.5-litre V8 feeds outputs of 475kW and 595Nm through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to the rear wheels, while the standard Corvette Stingray employs a naturally-aspirated 369kW/367Nm 6.2-litre ‘LT2’ V8.

Priced at $336,000 before on-road costs, the Z06 3LZ coupe sits above the standard Corvette Stingray 2LT and 3LT coupe and convertible, and is also more expensive than the electrified Corvette E-Ray coupe ($275,000 plus on-roads).
