2026 Volvo XC60: Refreshed SUV gets tech upgrade

The Volvo XC60 may be eight years old, but it’s been given another refresh to keep it going for a little while longer.

Changes include minor visual tweaks plus enhanced technology, largely the same updates recently given to the larger XC90.

We’ve contacted Volvo Car Australia to confirm when the updated 2026 XC60 will come here.

It’s the second refresh for the XC60 after an update in 2021.

It’s distinguished externally by new air intakes and wheel options, plus darker rear lights.

Forest Lake, Aurora Silver and Mulberry Red exterior finishes join the colour palette.

More significant changes can be found inside, with a larger 11.2-inch infotainment touchscreen – up from 9.0 inches – which Volvo says has a pixel density 21 per cent greater than before for a crisper appearance.

Volvo says the infotainment system, which features Google built-in, is more than twice as fast as the outgoing system as it’s underpinned by the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform.

There are refreshed materials too, with new options such as Quilted Nordico and Navy Herringbone Weave.

Volvo has also restyled the cupholders and improved the wireless phone charger, while the Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity sound system has a new speaker mesh design.

No mechanical changes have been outlined for the XC60, which is offered with a range of mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid four-cylinder powertrains.

In Australia, it’s offered with either the B5 2.0-litre turbocharged mild-hybrid powertrain with 183kW of power and 350Nm of torque, or the T8 2.0-litre turbocharged plug-in hybrid powertrain with 340kW and 709Nm and up to 81km of range on the WLTP cycle.

The current, second-generation XC60 entered production in 2017 and has continuously been Volvo’s top-selling model globally.

In Australia, however, the crown last year went to the smaller XC40 with 3142 sales against 1905 for the XC60. The EX30 slotted in between the two with 2129 sales.

The XC60 will have an electric counterpart in 2026 called the EX60, though this will ride on Volvo’s new SPA3 platform.

In addition to launching new electric models, Volvo is busily refreshing its existing lineup of vehicles that use a combustion engine.

Volvo confirmed earlier this month that it plans to launch five brand new or refreshed products in 2025, with its CEO Jim Rowan noting “they’ll all be in play by the second half of the year or certainly by the end of the third quarter”.

He also confirmed another five new or refreshed models are due in 2026.

That suggests vehicles like the smaller XC40 are in line for similar updates to those given to the XC60 and XC90.
