The Volvo EX30 Cross Country has been revealed in production form, previewing the more rugged version of the electric SUV due in showrooms later this year.

First unveiled in digital prototype form in 2023, Volvo has now officially taken the covers off the EX30 Cross Country – and it looks little changed from the prototype.

Volvo Australia has previously said the EX30 Cross Country will arrive in late 2025.

As with previous Volvo Cross Country-branded models – such as the V40, V60, V70 and V90 – the EX30 features cosmetic changes to its front and rear skid plates, wheel-arch flares and other exterior enhancements to make it appear more rugged.

The closed-off front ‘grille’ also features a topographical map of the Kebnekaise mountain range in Arctic Sweden, said to be an influence on Volvo’s designers.

Volvo also said it has plans to introduce a “Cross Country Experience” for owners which would include a “discounted” package for the rugged version of the EV, planned to include “a load carrier, a roof basket, 18-inch all terrain tyres and mudflaps”.

It’s worth noting the EX30 Cross Country pictured rides on 19-inch wheels, shod in road-focused tyres.

Volvo didn’t make any changes inside the cabin, nor does the Cross Country’s powertrain differ from the current EX30 flagship.

The Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Performance Ultra upon which it’s based produces 315kW and 543Nm, with the Cross Country sprinting from 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds, or just one-tenth slower than the existing version.

While it’s powered by the same 64kWh battery, the EX30 Cross Country has a reduced driving range of 427km (down from 460km).

Pricing has yet to be announced, however expect a premium over the $71,290 before on-road costs tag of the EX30 Twin Motor Performance Ultra.

The Volvo EX30 was Australia’s seventh best-selling electric vehicle last year, with 2129 examples sold.
