The 2026 Toyota RAV4 mid-size five-seat SUV will start from $45,990 before on-road costs when it lands in Australia early next year – a jump of nearly $4000 – with the most popular models almost $6000 dearer.
Featuring 11 variants – topped by a new GR Sport flagship – the sixth generation of Australia’s best-selling SUV has a new look, added safety equipment and the latest generation software and multimedia.
It’s due in Australia by the end of the first quarter (January to March) of 2026.
The 2026 RAV4 will also be offered with a choice of hybrid or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains, making it the first PHEV to be offered by Toyota Australia.

“We believe this mix of efficient electrified powertrains along with excellent grade choice will help to make Australia’s favourite SUV more popular than ever,” said Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia vice president of sales, marketing and franchise operations.
The RAV4 was Toyota’s best-selling model in Australia, and in 2025 sits a close second in the brand’s lineup to the HiLux ute, with only 43 sales between them in October.
While HiLux pricing is yet to be announced, almost every 2026 RAV4 model grade will cost more, with the $45,990 start for the entry-level RAV4 GX 2WD a significant $3730 above the outgoing 2025 version’s price.

This means the cheapest RAV4 will be priced above key rivals including the Mazda CX-5 – also due to be replaced by a new generation in 2026 – which currently starts at $36,740 before on-roads, but which isn’t offered with hybrid power.
RAV4 rivals with hybrid powertrains include the Hyundai Tucson, which sees hybrid versions start at $42,850 before on-roads (with non-hybrids from $38,350 before on-roads).
The RAV4 PHEV will start at $58,840 before on-roads for the cheapest XSE 2WD version, with the cheapest Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV – the five-seat ES model grade – priced from $57,290 before on-roads.

PHEV versions of both the RAV4 and the Outlander will cost more than the BYD Sealion 6 – the most popular PHEV in Australia in 2024 – which starts at a substantially lower $42,990 before on-road costs, albeit with a less potent powertrain.
The 2026 RAV4 range sees the hybrid powertrain standard on the GX, GXL, Edge, XSE and Cruiser model grades while the PHEV powertrain is offered only on the XSE and GR Sport.
The RAV4 Hybrid uses a 143kW 2.5-litre petrol four-cylinder petrol engines as part of its hybrid system on both front- and all-wheel drive models – down from 160kW in the previous generation, with Toyota citing Australian emissions standards as the reason for the drop.

The premium between FWD and AWD models has risen from $3000 to $3350 on hybrid models, while on the PHEVs the added cost for a second electric motor is $5000.
The entry-level RAV4 GX FWD comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, roof rails and rear spoiler, while the cabin debuts Toyota’s new-gen multimedia system with a 10.5-inch centre touchscreen.
The multimedia system is supposedly more responsive and offers new voice command functions, connected streaming and satellite navigation, as well as an ‘Embedded Drive Record’ capability courtesy of its Arene software, which supports over-the-air updates.
The base RAV4 also comes with dual-zone climate control, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and five USB-C charging ports.

Standard driver assist systems include eight airbags, while the next-generation Toyota Safety Sense suite brings front cross-traffic alert and “improved functionality” for the blind-spot monitoring and lane trace assist (lane centring) systems.
The GXL is priced from $48,990 before on-roads – a $3180 increase over the previous generation – and adds 18-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass, silver skid plates, leather interior trim, electric driver’s seat and wireless phone charging.
The RAV4 Edge AWD is next, and is the only 2026 model to be cheaper, now $55,340 – a reduction of $3020 – with dark alloy wheels and exterior treatment, a larger 12.9-inch infotainment screen and a power tailgate.

The XSE is also offered only with AWD, and is a substantial $6430 more than before, and runs a two-tone paint scheme with black 20-inch alloys, black bumpers and skid plates, as well as upgraded LED headlights.
Inside, the XSE includes suede and leather upholstery with heated and ventilated front seats, driver’s seat memory, a sunroof and a surround-view camera.
The Cruiser trim, the most popular trim level making up around one quarter of RAV4 sales, tops the RAV4 Hybrid lineup at $56,990 before on-roads in FWD form, a rise of more than $5500.
It comes with 20-inch machined alloy wheels and, over the XSE, adds a head-up display, power tailgate with kick sensor, two wireless smartphone chargers, and a nine-speaker JBL sound system.
The RAV4 PHEV lineup starts with the XSE 2WD at $58,840 before on-roads with AWD an additional $4500.

Its PHEV powertrain combines a 2.5-litre petrol four-cylinder engine with a front motor on 2WD models for a combined 200kW output, while AWD PHEVs run a second motor on the rear axle for a total output of 227kW – making it the most powerful RAV4 to date.
The RAV4 PHEV lineup also comes with larger brakes and a 1500W inverter in the cargo area, replacing 12V outlets offered in hybrid models, which enables charging of small appliances.
All RAV4 PHEVs run a 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack with 50kW DC charging and 11kW three-phase AC charging.
Toyota is yet to release further details including electric-only range, which is expected to be around 100km.

Topping the lineup is the first-ever RAV4 GR Sport AWD – a flagship performance model with a sporting tilt – at $63,340 plus on-road costs.
The GR Sport’s look includes 20-inch black alloy wheels – with 10mm wider tyres – showing off red brake calipers inside black wheel arches, with unique front and rear bumpers, rear spoiler and GR badging.
There’s also a unique steering tune, GR-specific coil-spring rates, front performance suspension dampers and rear body brace, while cabin upgrades include red stitching, a GR steering wheel with paddle shifters, and aluminium pedals.
