2026 Suzuki Jimny: Three-door returning with tech updates, higher prices

The Suzuki Jimny three-door will return to Australian showrooms in February 2026 with several tech updates, ending a production pause for the Japanese-made cult SUV.

Suzuki Australia told CarExpert it has around 600 back orders for the three-door Jimny, which will return with a two model-grade lineup: Jimny Lite and Jimny.

The Jimny Lite with manual transmission will start at $33,990 before on-road costs with the automatic version priced from $36,490 before on-roads – both $2000 more than previously.

The higher price brings new tech, with the Jimny Lite including a 7.0-inch touchscreen – with a larger 9.0-inch version on Jimny – with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

The Jimny Lite will lose its CD player for 2026, but appears to have also missed out on the new 4.2-inch instrument cluster screen announced as part of an update for Japan earlier this year.

The three-door Jimny lineup will, however, get front and rear parking sensors, lane departure prevention, adaptive cruise control and upgraded ‘dual sensor brake support system II’ as standard equipment.

“Jimny’s price increase is driven purely by specification updates,” said Suzuki Australia general manager Michael Pachota, who also put paid to speculation the Jimny’s place in the local lineup is under threat from the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) introduced in 2025.

“While NVES is creating pressure across the industry, our promise of ‘For Fun, for Ever’ remains central to our pricing strategy, ensuring fun stays forever affordable for Suzuki customers, even as we work towards our carbon-neutral future.

“Rest assured, Jimny is here to stay, and it will continue to embody the legendary purity that has defined it from day one.”

The five-door Jimny XL – which is made in India – was the subject of a stop-sale earlier this year, which saw Suzuki Australia dealers unable to deliver customer vehicles.

It came while shipments of the Japan-made three-door were paused, but while overall sales year-to-date are down almost 20 per cent, the Jimny remains Suzuki’s best-seller making up almost half its sales.
