Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer Xpeng has revealed an updated version of its largest SUV, though it’s unclear when it’ll arrive Down Under.

Xpeng showed off several new features on the G9 via its Chinese Weibo page, while outlet Car News China has reported on a series of tweaked specifications.

There have been increases in power and electric range, while there’s also a new generation of Xpeng’s so-called ‘Turing AI intelligent driving system’ that removes the need for LiDAR.

As with the updated G6, there’s a new “black warrior” version, featuring all-black paint, alloy wheels, and badging, however otherwise the exterior is essentially unchanged.

While Australian customers can register their interest for the G9 on Xpeng’s local website, it’s not currently known when the Chinese EV brand plans to open the model’s order books. The only Xpeng model currently sold in Australia is the G6 mid-sized SUV.

The Xpeng G9 features an 800-volt electrical architecture, and will reportedly be available with two drivetrain configurations: a single-motor, rear-wheel drive setup with 258kW of power (up from 230kW) and 465Nm of torque, and a dual-motor, all-wheel drive alternative with up to 423kW and 695Nm.

79kWh and 93.1kWh battery packs will be available. Car News China quotes three driving ranges for the G9, which are listed as 625km, 680km, and 725km – though they’re all based on the more lenient CLTC testing program.

For context, the current G9 offers CLTC driving ranges of 570km, 650km, and 702km.

A whopping nine drive modes will be available, along with a power tailgate and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The G9 measures 4891mm long, 1937mm wide, and 1680mm tall while riding atop a 2998mm wheelbase, making it 105mm shorter but 7mm wider than a Toyota Kluger on a 138mm longer wheelbase.

It features double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension.

Car News China reports the G9’s new-generation Turing AI system removes the need for LiDAR.

The G9 still has a bevy of sensors to power its driver assist technology however, comprising 11 cameras, three millimetre-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars, and Xpeng claims “visual perception distance” has been increased by 125 per cent over the outgoing G9.

Additionally, recognition speed has been increased by 40 per cent, while the car can more accurately identify moving and stationary obstacles.

Inside there are three screens, comprising dual 14.96-inch displays and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Its software will reportedly support 5G connectivity and over-the-air updates.

Three interior colours will also be available: Moon Shadow Coffee, Elegant Gray, and Morning Glory Brown.

Pricing is yet to be announced for the updated G9, though the current model starts at 263,900 yuan (A$57,762).
