2025 Mercedes-Benz G580 price and specs: G-Wagen EV priced for Australia

The first electric Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen is coming to Australian showrooms, with orders now open and pricing announced for the unique SUV.

Initially expected to be called the EQG, the Mercedes-Benz G580 with EQ Technology will be the only non-AMG G-Wagen in local showrooms, after the diesel G400d was killed in 2022.

Priced from $249,900 before on-road costs, it’s almost $120,000 less expensive than the G63 AMG, however this price gap is reduced if you buy the limited-run Edition One, loaded with equipment not available on the base model.

  • Edition One

Powering the G580 are four electric motors, capable of producing up to 432kW and 1164Nm and propelling this circa-3000kg SUV from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds.

A huge 116kWh battery supplies power to the blocky EV, which has a claimed driving range of 473km on the WLTP test cycle.

While it still features the same body-on-frame chassis as all other G-Wagens to retain its off-road credibility, the G580 has a tweaked appearance, featuring a raised bonnet, new A-pillar trim, roof lip spoiler, and rear wheel air curtains.

And yes, its G-Turn system – allowing it to turn 360 degrees on its own axis – has carried across to production.

First deliveries are due before the second half of 2025.
