The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe small sedan has followed its 1 Series hatch sibling in receiving a significant facelift inside and out.
The upgraded version of BMW’s most compact sedan is due to arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2025, priced from $59,900 before on-road costs.
UPDATE, 23/02/25 – BMW Australia has added a mid-range 220 Gran Coupe variant to its 2 Series lineup, as well as increased the price of the existing 218 Gran Coupe and M235 xDrive Gran Coupe by $1100. This article has been updated to reflect those changes.
While the cost of entry into the 2 Series Gran Coupe range is now about $4900 less than before, the entry-level variant now packs a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine instead of a 2.0-litre turbo four.
However, you’ll still find a 2.0-litre turbo four in the new mid-range 220 and the range-topping 2 Series Gran Coupe. In the flagship variant of the small German sedan range it packs an extra 8kW of power, but it’s missing an ‘i’ and is now called simply the M235 xDrive.
It also ditches its eight-speed automatic transmission in favour of a seven-speed dual-clutch auto.

The exterior styling has been smoothed out, particularly at the tail, while the front-end closely resembles that of the latest 1 Series.
Adaptive LED headlights are now standard across the range, including matrix high-beam and cornering light functions.
In mid-2025, BMW Australia will also add the option of its BMW Iconic Glow illuminated grille surround.
The compact sedan now measures 20mm longer at 4546mm and 25mm taller at 1445mm, though width is unchanged at 1800mm and the wheelbase remains 2670mm.
All Australian-market 2 Series Gran Coupes will come standard with the M Sport package.
BMW says it has increased the rigidity of the 2 Series Gran Coupe’s chassis for improved dynamics, while also introducing “optimised kinematics” and new shock absorber technology. There’s also increased caster offset for the front wheels.
Inside, there’s a fresh look with a larger 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen running BMW Operating System 9. More functions are now controlled via this screen, with the interior featuring fewer buttons than before.
BMW says its QuickSelect functionality allows you to access more features via the touchscreen without having to burrow through sub-menus thanks to the use of configurable widgets.
There are also new seats for greater lateral support, a new steering wheel and a new shifter.
The front- or all-wheel drive 2 Series Gran Coupe four-door continues to be unrelated to the two-door rear-wheel drive 2 Series Coupe.

Servicing and Warranty
BMW Australia backs its vehicles with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
BMW offers a five-year, 80,000km Service Inclusive Basic package for the 2 Series, which costs $2380 – the same as the 1 Series. That price is up $170 on the service package available when the 2 Series launched.

Safety
The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has yet to be tested by ANCAP or Euro NCAP. The outgoing model attracted a five-star ANCAP rating from 2019.
Standard equipment for the 218 is the Driving Assistant and Driving Assistant Plus suite of active safety and driver assist technology. This includes:
